Playful Pups

Playful puppies make some of the most delightful dogs, so it's no wonder that some of the most popular dog breeds are some of the most playful. These dogs can make paw-fect additions to family homes, where pooches can play with everyone and get plenty of regular stimulation and exercise.

Our first top pick for playful dogs has to be the Labrador, as this beautiful breed is so well-tempered and versatile. These pups adore to play and have fun, whilst also being very patient and loving with their families. We also suggest Golden Retrievers for similar reasons. They also are very affectionate and adaptable to most family homes and dynamics, but will also keep you on your toes with their energy and pursuit of play. The Jack Russell Terrier is up next, and is a smaller dog on our list with a shorter coat. This can make them a little lower maintenance than bigger and hairier dogs, but don't let their size fool you. These pups are packed with energy, and love nothing more than a good run-around, whilst playing lots of games with their owners. The good old Springer Spaniel is our last playful pooch here, who loves exercise, and looking good whilst they do it. This breed have beautiful coats that stream behind them as they run as fast as they can. Despite their high-energy, they still have plenty of time for cuddles, and love to cosy up with their families after a long day of playtime.

For playful pups, it's got to be our Chicken Dinner with Country Vegetables, as this tasty and hearty meal is loved by all. Everyone adores a classic pup breed, who loves nothing more than playing hard and having a long cuddle afterwards.

Up next, we've got dogs for those fitness fanatics, who want a travel companion for all their outdoor adventures.

Outdoorsy Dogs

Want a best-friend to keep up with your exercise routines? We've got the dogs for you. We've found some of the most high energy pups there are, who will explore the great wilderness with you, and give you a run for your money on your next hike.

One of the most energetic dogs are undoubtably Border Collies. These long-haired working dogs have heritage in herding and running all day long, so need plenty of stimulating walks to stay happy. They are also highly intelligent, so will love the challenge of outdoor activity and sports. Another active pup breed are Huskies, who much like the Border Collie, love stimulating exercise to keep them going. Their thick coats and cold-weather builds also mean they're the perfect dog for colder climates and snowy activities, so the ideal travel companion for chillier parts of the world. We also highly recommend Staffordshire Bull Terriers to keep fighting fit with you. These pooches are smaller with shorter coats, so more suited to everyday runs and walks than long mountain hikes. Dalmatians are our final pick, as they are a beloved dog breed for their unique coats and cheeky charm. They are very smart dogs who need lots of mental stimulation as well as physical, so enjoy playing and exploring in new areas, or trying out new sports and activities with you.

We recommend our Lamb Kebab for outdoorsy pups, as this meal provides all the energy and fuel you could need, alongside hearty and delicious flavours. This dish is well suited for a dog that is just as unique and playful as its flavours are.

Moving onto some chiller breeds, who love nothing more than relaxing with their favourite humans.

Mellow Mates

After all those playful and energetic dogs, it's time to focus on the more blissful breeds. These pups are ideal for slower paced households, or for those who need dogs with lower maintenance needs. Here are our favourite mellow mates for you.

Up first is an absolute classic, the Maltese. This gorgeous looking breed is sweet and silly, and is usually very chilled out and versatile. They tend to fit most households well due to their patient and affectionate natures. They have relatively low exercise needs, and only need a short walk a day to keep fit and happy. Shih Tzus are also fabulous dogs for anyone looking for a more mellow pup. These dogs have lovely looking coats, so may need regular grooming, but less regular exercise. They are comfy lap dogs, who prefer curling up with their owner over running through fields. We've got Bull Mastiffs up next, which may be surprising to some. This is because of the breeds high exercise needs, as will need walks or exercise frequently. However, they adore chilling out with their owners when playtime is over, and despite their need for exercise, they are very calm and loyal pups. We also couldn't go without mentioning the King Charles Spaniel, who are a very popular breed for a reason. These pups love to spend time with their favourite people, and will be happy lounging around or playing, as long as it's with you. They fit into most households well due to this adaptable nature, and adore chilling out with their family.

Our Duck Terrine is a favourite choice for mellow pooches, as the delicious flavour is sure to suit lapdogs well. This meal provides a yummy and comforting meal for any pup, whilst being packed full of superfoods to keep bodies healthy, and hair shiny and soft.

Let's move to our affectionate breeds: loveable and cuddly dogs who will be the best companions around.

Cuddly Pooches

Who doesn't love a cuddly dog? After all, most people looking for a pup are primarily looking for companionship, so cuddles and kisses don't usually go amiss. If you want a sweetie to come home to, here are the most affectionate breeds we could find.

Boxers are some of the most loveable and loyal dogs around, even if they don't always look the happiest. These pooches can be overlooked for their strong stature, but are very committed to their owners, and love nothing more than head pats and scratches for being a good boy. Pugs are also very loveable dogs who adore spending time with their families, and cuddling up next to any humans near them. They love to play and have fun too, as long as they're rewarded with kisses afterwards. Next, this classic British breed is known for being super sweet and even sillier, the Bulldog. These pups are extremely loyal, and will protect their owners fiercely, as well as always believing they are lapdogs, no matter their size. Just like the British Bulldog, the French Bulldog is also loveable and loyal. Frenchies are more compact in size and more playful, but are just as affectionate, loving nothing more than a big cuddles on the sofa.

For huggable hounds, we recommend our Turkey Loaf to keep their tummies happy and bodies fuelled. This dish is full of zingy flavour and superfoods, that will have your pup covering you in kisses to say thanks.

Our last category on this list is for dogs who love a puzzle and a challenge, and could rival their owners with their super smarts.

Brainy Best-Friends

Perhaps you are an experienced dog-owner already, or someone who wants to teach their pets every trick possible. Don't worry, we've found some of the smartest dogs and brainiest pups to keep you on your toes. They probably can't solve your crossword, but they can sniff out a hidden treat and roll over in an instant.

We're kicking things off with the Poodle, a breed that has both brains and beauty. Although often thought of for their lovely looks first, Poodles are actually incredibly intelligent, and love to learn new things. Just make sure to keep them stimulated and entertained, otherwise they love to cause mischief to remind you who's the smart one. Another brainy breed is the Doberman. Dobermans are very smart dogs, and love to explore and learn new things. Their curious nature can get them into trouble sometimes, so be sure to give them ample opportunities to discover and play. They are also very loyal and loveable dogs, so will adore cuddling up after you treat them to exciting puzzles and playtime. An easily trainable breed is the Australian Cattle Dog. As the name suggests, they are working dogs, contributing to their ability to listen and learn quickly. They tend to have high exercise needs, so enjoy a good run around or activity, especially if they can exercise their mind at the same time. Finally, we have the German Shepherd. These dogs are particularly intelligent due to their roots, also as working dogs. This means that they are highly trainable, and listen very well. As such, they make great show dogs, and adore learning and playing with their owners.

Fuel your curious pups with our Salmon Traybake dish, as this protein packed meal is sure to keep minds healthy. Your brainbox will adore the zingy flavours, and this meals superfoods will keep them healthy and happy through difficult training.
