Get ready for Christmas with our favourite cat holiday films
Nothing makes a festive film better than the addition of a furry friend! Check out this list of our favourite Christmas movies featuring cats to pack some purr into your holiday season.
With the holiday season fast approaching, it's the perfect time to cosy up with your best fluffy friends and watch some Christmas movies to get into the spirit of things. Our favourite festive films are, of course, the ones with furrier heroes and villains, perfect for watching alongside your pussycats and pets. From heart-warming stories, to hilarious classics, here are our favourite Christmas movies featuring cats, as well as which human and kitty snacks would go best with each flick.
Grab your blankets and dim the lights, this first festive film is a family-friendly classic that everyone can enjoy.
Christmas with the Kranks
This film is a crazy classic that combines heart-warming Christmas sentiment and hilarious and chaotic antics. 'Christmas with the Kranks' follows the story of The Kranks, husband and wife who just want to go on a sunny holiday for Christmas this year. However, when their daughter arrives home for the holidays, their plans are scrapped and Christmas takes a rather different turn. Festive themed romps are guaranteed with this feel-good flick, so it's perfect for watching with the family. It also features fluffy feline, Muffles, the Persian cat. Muffles has a less than savoury relationship with Luther Krank, who both cause trouble for each other throughout the film. Don't worry though, they're bound to be best buds eventually. This film is rated PG, with only comic danger and light innuendos, so use your best judgement if sitting down with younger children.
We think a delicious snack of cookies and milk is the perfect way to enjoy this movie, as a classic film deserves a classic treat. Creating yummy chocolate chip cookies is a wonderful family activity to do together, before you sit down to enjoy your hard-work with a cold glass of milk and a matching movie. For your perfect pussycats, we suggest a yummy bowl of our Chicken Casserole, as it's well suited to refined felines who know they're the cats meow.
If you fancy a shorter film for even the youngest family members, this next one is bound to be a Christmas treat.
A Garfield Christmas Special
Who doesn't love Garfield? This Christmas TV movie gives you all of Garfield's best bits and more, by exploring his kind of Christmas. We see Garfield, Jon, and Odie go to Jon's Grandmother's to celebrate the season, where the loveable orange cat finds her the perfect present. This film showcases wonderful animation and funny endeavours, but also keeps its heart, with a wonderfully warm message about the true meaning of Christmas and those close to you. Being just 23 minutes, this film is great for a heart-warming yet concise festive watch, or for those who struggle with longer movies. This festive film is rated U, so can be enjoyed by all this holiday season.
Candy canes are the obvious choice for this film, as they have been a fun and sweet symbol of Christmas throughout time, and are just as recognisable as Garfield himself. For your kitties, we recommend our Chicken with Beef Chunks to give them a meaty treat, something we think Garfield would adore before an adventure with his best friends.
Up next, we've got another short yet sweet animated film that stays wonderfully charming whilst tugging on your heartstrings.
Mog's Christmas
This is a beautifully animated movie, adapted from the Judith Kerr novel of the same name. This 2023 expansion to the Mog universe follows, as you'd expect, Mog's Christmas, as she celebrates with the Thomas family. However, she feels left out and ignored by them, and once the Christmas tree is put up, she runs up to the roof out of fear and refuses to come down. This holiday heart-warmer is a classic British tale, that shows the importance of family at Christmas, especially the furrier members. This is rated U, so is perfect to enjoy with younger viewers as the themes of loneliness are explored in gentle manner alongside the festive storyline and characters.
Our movie snack of choice is Christmas pudding, as it is sweet and warm, and definitely a British classic. You can enjoy this in all its glory, or make simple and small individual puddings for every member of your family. For your cat, we're recommending our Chicken with Salmon Delight meal, as it is simple and satisfying, just like this festive film.
Our next Christmas film brings the festive feel back to live action, so lets talk about its holiday charm.
A Gift from Bob
This tale builds on the beautiful film 'A Street Cat named Bob', by expanding the relationship between Bob the cat and musician, Luke, and what stands between them during the holiday season. Based on the books and true stories of a struggling musician and his best cat friend, this film bring some festive feline magic to an older audience, as well as exploring the tougher side of Christmas. This film is dedicated to the real life Bob, as he sadly passed just before this movie was released, which makes this tale even more bitter-sweet. This is rated a 12A due to mild darker themes, so a good watch for a grown-up night in, or with older children.
Mince pies are our recommendation here, as they are comforting, warm, and best enjoyed at Christmas. If you want a pre-movie activity, you can also have a go at making these from scratch. Your kittycat pal will love a bowl of our Turkey Pâté with Chicken and Squash with this wonderful tale, as it is just as creative and good for the soul.
Rounding off our list is a less obvious Christmas film, but one that captures a grittier Christmas feel and plenty of feline mayhem.
Batman Returns
Directed by Tim Burton, this dark fantasy can be forgotten as a Christmas film. However, it takes place all throughout the festive season and shows an alternative look at the holidays. The story follows Batman as he foils The Penguin's plots, and of course, Catwoman's too. Catwoman is played by Michelle Pfeiffer, and is an absolutely iconic portrayal of this role. Not only does she elegantly capture both the crazy and cut-throat sides to Selina Kyle, but is surrounded by many captivating kitties throughout the film. This film is rated 12 due to intense and violent scenes, so best enjoyed with older children or other grown-ups. However, due to it's comic-book basis, the action is stylistic and exaggerated so not too scary for your teens.
Lebkuchen cookies are the perfect choice, as you can spend the day making them with your family or friends, and can customise them with all sorts of flavours. The sugary and spicy flavour is reminiscent of the film, as they are darkly delicious and will have your house smelling like Christmas in no time. You can even create some tasty cookies for your kitty too, check out our recipes for cat-friendly baking here. The best meal for your whisker-licking besties is going to be our Salmon Traybake, as just like the movie, it's deliciously satisfying whilst providing a unique flavour.
