Our top 10 doggy Superfoods to give your canine the hero treatment

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it’s your pup!

We’ve all heard the word Superfood thrown around, but what does it actually mean? Although it’s not quite burgers in capes (although that would be cool), Superfoods are pretty super in supporting your pet’s health and nutrition. They’re so packed full of vitamins, minerals, and more, that they keep those tails wagging.

At Tilly & Ted, we pack as many Superfoods as we can into our dog food, as we believe your pet deserves a seat at the table to eat as good as you do: they’re your babies, so should be treated as such. Check out our list of our top 10 Superfoods for your pup below, and which of our meals are bursting with them.

1. Blueberries

Blueberries are bursting with fibre and antioxidants, and luckily are full of fantastic flavour for your four-legged friend. The beautiful blue comes from anthocyanins, which are not only anti-inflammatories, but also help keep your brain healthy.

Our favourite recipe of ours containing this blue-tiful Superfood has to be our Chicken Dinner with Country Vegetables. This Chicken and Pork meal includes a healthy amount of Blueberry powder to add zing and provide awesome antioxidants.

2. Carrots

There’s a reason we were all told carrots can help you see in the dark, they practically can! Carrots promote excellent eye health, alongside boosting immunity, and giving your dog a coat so shiny you’d think they’d been using P’Awreal.

Not every paw-fect pal loves carrots however, so for a carrot rich recipe that’s also tail waggingly delicious, we’ve gotta give it to our Lamb Kebab meal. This has lots of sneaky goodness baked right in alongside 50% mouth-watering lamb and chicken.

3. Eggs

We all know that eggs are brimming to the shell with goodness of all kinds, including important amino acids, proteins, and nutrients. They also help your hungry floof keep healthy digestion and strong bones, so that they can keep running rings around you.

Our absolute fave egg-cellent recipe is our Chicken Happy Puppy Meal, designed for your fur baby to keep healthy and happy so they can focus on the important stuff, like chewing your shoes. This contains 60% of protein rich chicken as well our super-est food, the humble egg.

4. Parsley

Up next, we have parsley, the mean green Superfood machine. This curly little chap is positively exploding with nutrients, antioxidants and essential vitamins, supporting your dog’s immune system, joints, kidneys, and urinary tract.

Nothing’s more classic than a Beef Stew with Vegetables, which is why it’s our top meal for those parsley lovers. With heaps of healthy beef and veg, this hearty stew is crafted to nourish your pet from the inside out, with parsley powder included for that special garnish.

5. Green Tea

There’s nothing more British than enjoying a cuppa alongside your pupper, and tea can also help boost your dog’s immune system. Green tea specifically can lower blood pressure to reduce risk of heart problems, and add a touch of zen to your zany bestie.

Green tea extract is added to our senior Roast Dinner meal, as we know how important it is for your older pup to eat well and feel amazing. Who says you can’t teach an old dog new tricks, they’ll be doing front flips for this recipe.

6. Fish

We all know that fish can be rich in Omega 3, fatty acids, and antioxidants, and there’s a reason it’s made our list. They’re also a fab source of calcium, so your waggy pal can keep a spring in their step with healthy joints and bones.

Our king of fabulous fishy meals is our Salmon Traybake, which contains 50% salmon and chicken for digestible protein. It’s rich in Omega 3 and 6 to support healthy skin and a wonderfully shiny coat.

7. Cranberries

Much like blueberries, cranberries are also tiny powerhouses of vitamins, so your dog can keep the bounce in their bungee. Rich in anti-inflammatories cranberries can reduce risk of arthritis, and keep your dog’s urinary tract healthy, so they can pee – sorry be – their best waggy selves.

For a healthy and meaty dish, we recommend our Turkey Loaf, as with 60% turkey, minerals, veggies, and of course, cranberry powder, it’s crafted to please even the most discerning canine palates.

8. Seaweed

Bringing the flavour of the sea, seaweed is not only a yummy treat for your dog, but is also low in fat, filled with an ocean of amino acids, and aids in digestion and dental health. A bit of natural mermaid food can keep those chompers shining, and that tummy as happy as can be.

Many of our meals contain seaweed due to these health benefits, but one of our faves is our Chicken with Salmon Pie. This meal is designed for puppies, so even your littlest fur baby can enjoy a delicious, protein packed meal, whilst getting all the nutrients they need to grow big and strong.

9. Chicory Root

Chicory root is one of our very favourite Superfoods, and as such, we’ve included it in lots of our different pet meals and recipes. Chicory root is a wonderful source of fibre, so keeps tummies ticking along healthily, and contains many antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, and more.

Our top pick for this ravishing root is our Chicken Paella recipe. Full of protein rich chicken, the chicory root powder supports digestive wellness all round, as well as being a savoury symphony that will have your furry friend begging for seconds.

10. Spinach

Oh, spinach you sensational green, how are you so filled with goodness? This leafy little lad is superbly rich in antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties, as well as all the iron it’s packing.

Our Duck Terrine is not only a gourmet indulgence crafted for your dog's sophisticated palate, but is also keeping the, looking and feeling their best alongside it’s luxurious taste, thanks in part to the superhero that is spinach.

Now those are some satisfied canines!
